Saturday saw the Club hosting the County sem final of the Ladies National Top Club event between Basingstoke Town and Lee-on-the-Solent. Given that, in the previous round, the Town had eliminated Alton Social with their plethora of Johns Trophy (JT) players it was expected to be a close game. Lee had the current County Champions playing for them in the Pairs and with one of their three JT players participating in the singles it was, from Town's perspective, important they counter that threat in the other two disciplines. In the Triples,Town made a good start but by 6 ends the scores in this discipline were level and Lee comfortably ahead in the other 3 with an overall shots advantage in excess of 25. Basingstoke Town kept plugging away but by 12 ends Lee's greater experience was showiing as they led in all four disciplines and when Lee picked up the Singles point it needed a huge turnaround for Town to win the match. That turnover did not materialise and Lee-on-the-Solent ran out 4-0 winners to reach the County Final where they will play New Milton or Argyll. Congratulations to Lee on their win, Commiserations to Town, who did so well to reach the semi and finally thanks to those of our members who helped out at the green, enabling us to host the match.
