OAKLEY HOSTS THE COUNTY

On a sunny afternoon but with a cold wind, Oakley Bowling Club was delighted, yesterday, to host Bowls Hampshire's Women's fixture against Middlesex. Oakley players Wendy Aherne,Shirley Ball, Val Ryan and Mary Varndell were part of the Hampshire team of 24. For Wendy, who only took up bowls in June 2023 and had received a last minute call to play, it was a special day as not only was it her debut for the County but she finished up as a member of Hampshire's highest winning rink. Sadly, despite the efforts of the Oakley quartet, Hampshire went down to a narrow 2 shot defeat. That defeat was soon forgotten as the players socialised in the Clubhouse and enjoyed the after match meal provided by Graham from Party Line. Thanks go to all who helped. These matches could not happen without the volunteers who prepare the green, organise and help with the catering, staff the bar etc.
