There was a delayed start to this morning's away match against Whitchurch in the Mixed Top Club and when both Oakley singles players quickly registered comprehensive victories many thought it would not be long before Oakley, picked up from the remaining three disciplines, the final point needed for victory. Whitchurch, however, had other ideas and at halfway led in the Pairs and Fours with Oakley having only a two shot lead in the Triples. The next point went to Whitchurch as they took the Pairs and when they followed this with a single shot win in the Triples all eyes were on the Fours. At 15 ends Oakley had looked comfortable with a six shot lead but losing a five meant the last two ends were tense. Fortunately a single and a two were enough to give Oakley a win in the Fours and overall victory by 3 points to 2. Oakley scores: Alice Lovett won 21-3; Martin Vickers won 21-5; Janie Vickers and Sean Lassman lost 11-23; Mary Varndell, Spencer Kerley and Ric Newson lost 12-13; Sue Dixon, Angie Rowe, Jim Dixon and Graham Tompkins won 19-15.
