There were some close and tense matches at today's Oakley Finals where Gary Newson was the star performer, lifting both the Open and Men's Singles titles, emulating his father who achieved the same feat in 2012. To win the Men's Singles Gary had a 21-18 win over the 2021 and 2018 champion Sean Lassman and in the Open Singles he defeated the 2013 champion Janie Vickers. The Ladies Singles saw Laura Butler, the 2022 champion sneak home in a marathon 29 end match against Christine Williams whilst, not to be totally overshadowed by his son, Ric Newson, in the Two Bowl Singles, beat first time finalist Peter Pearce. The final event of the day, the Mixed Pairs, had four finalists all of whom had played earlier and it was former winners and seven times finalists Janie Vickers and Sean Lassman who came out on top, after a titanic struggle with Christine Williams and Ric Newson. Congratulations to all participants. Weather wise it was not a good day to play but the 40 or so spectators were thoroughly entertained.
