Yesterday evening, 43 Oakley tourists returned from a splendid 4 night tour based in Bournemouth. We were well looked after at the Hermitage Hotel, a stones throw from the Pier and beach and somehow President Norman managed to ensure that our matches escaped the showers that were around for most of the week. There were games against Bournemouth BC, Southbourne BC and Argyll BC and we lost all three narrowly - quite a contrast to the 2015 trip to Bournemouth when we were undefeated. The Farewell Dinner on the Thursday evening was fun with President Norman thanking all those who had assisted him in arranging the tour and new tourist Jonathan Rouse, in an entertaining speech, paying tribute to President Norman who, along with Janette, had arranged a super tour. Friday saw us returning home with a stop at Banister Park where for most members it was a first opportunity to play on the green that is used for County Finals. We lost again but as President Norman reminded us it is the taking part and making new friends that matters. Leaving Southampton for the trip home, Norman brought the tour to a close by announcing that the Black Mark trophy, for the most misdemeanours on tour, had been won by our Vice President Ric Newson (his second win) and that the fines for Black Marks (and other activities) meant that over £250 would now go to his chosen charity, Jacksplace. Norman also reported that the Trophy for the best results on tour had been won by Malcolm Grime. We now look forward to the 2025 tour to Weston Super Mare.
