At a rain soaked Wokingham, Oakley's Men were last night outbowled by Egham in the Last 32 match of the National Top Club. Torrential rain on arrival saw both greens flooded and it looked likely the match would need to be rearranged. Play began, however, at about 6.45 pm with the singles matches on the lower green and the other disciplines on the top green, where it was agreed that, if necessary, floodlights could be used to ensure matches were completed. In the event floodlights were not needed and given the greens had been flooded earlier they bowled well. Egham won both singles disciplines and with Oakley looking highly unlikely to salvage a point in the other three disciplines Oakley conceded the match. So ended the Club's best ever run in the competition. It was fun whilst it lasted. Good luck to Egham, the worthy winners in the next round. Oakley scores: Ric Newson lost 15-12; Bob Goodyear lost 21-9; Steve Devonish and Sean Lassman lost 13-7; Hugh Aherne, Malcolm Grime and Spencer Kerley lost 19-11; Gary Newson, Jim Dixon, Rolf Denny and Graham Tompkins lost 22-5.
