MIXED RESULTS TODAY

This evening there was disappointment for Oakley's Martin Vickers in the Northern Area final of the County Singles. Playing at Basingstoke Town against Alton Social's Anthony Lafrenais, Martin made a good start leading 7-2 but 12 unaswered shots from Anthony saw Martin trailling 7-14. A fight back took him to 15-18 and when Martin scored the next 5 shots to lead 20-18 it looked as if Oakley would have a qualfier for the Last Eights but it was not to be, Anthony running out a 21-20 winner.

Earlier in the day there had, however, been success for Oakley as Ric Newson, substituting for Gerald Norris and Graham Tompkins won through against a Cove pairing to reach the County Final of the National Senior Pairs. The Oakley duo, playing on their own green, shot into a 10-0 lead and, try as they did, Cove were never able to recover from the early deficit. Oakley now play Milton Park with the winners going forward to the National Finals at Leamington.
