ALICE OUT OF NATIONAL SINGLES

Alice's hopes of reaching the last 16 of the National Singles came to an end this morning at a wet and windy Leamington. Playing against the highly experienced Sian Honnor of Kent, Alice struggled with weight early on and it was only a fine last bowl on the third end that avoided her going 7-0 down. With Sian being slightly more consistent, Alice after 9 ends trailed 9-4. Two successive scores of two brought Alice back into the match but a wayward 12th end saw Sian score a three and with momentum with her, Sian raced out to a 17-9 lead. Alice was not done winning 5 of the next 6 ends to close to 19-16 down before Sian on the 23rd end scored the two to clinch the match. Well done both players in giving us an absorbing match to watch in what were difficult conditions and good luck to Alice when, next week, with Grace Read, she plays in the Junior Pairs.
